"I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered."
Psalm 89:32-34
I've loved these verses over the past few days. We all have sinned, we all have made really stupid decisions, and I'm sure you - like me - have felt Gods discipline. But these verses remind me that punishment for sin or flogging for iniquity is not the worst thing we can experience. The worst thing comes in the next verse, and it's something we as followers of Jesus will never experience. He will never take His love away from us or betray His faithfulness. So wherever you are - if you're in a season of pain in life, or if you're experiencing the discipline of God because of a sinful choice - remember it's not the worst place you could be. His love is abounding and He is faithful and true. And there's no better place to be.
I wrote these words to a song the other day:
"There is nothing more beautiful than mercy,
Nothing more glorious than grace,
There is no better freedom than forgiveness,
And when it comes to love,
There's no better place than You"
Hallelujah
